The Review Process
All eligible applications are now undergoing an independent review and scoring process. Applications will be evaluated using the predefined scoring criteria outlined in the Program & Application Guide.
Who Reviews Applications
Applications are scored by an independent Review Committee representing a range of expertise from across California, including journalism practice, philanthropy, academic research, information equity, community representation, organizational sustainability, digital media, and more.
The committee is selected and managed by the program’s third-party administrators. Neither GO-Biz nor the Advisory Board participates in the review process.
How Applications Are Scored
Applications are scored based on responses to three narrative questions addressing coverage of disinvested audiences, ongoing viability, and planned use of funds.
Applications will be scored using a pre-defined rubric, with higher-scoring applications funded first until all available funds are depleted.Please reference the Program & Application Guide for a copy of the rubric used to evaluate responses to the narrative questions.
Awards Announcement
Applicants will be notified of their award status in fall 2026.
